Ever wondered if you can freeze cornbread? This type of American bread is really enjoyed by many is so many ways, often consumed at any meal either breakfast, lunch or dinner.

What is cornbread?

Cornbread in a type of quick bread made with cornmeal, the raining agent used being baking powder. It is associated with southern United Stated cuisine and has origins from native American cuisine. It is made in forms of large bread or muffins, corn cakes or even fried. It’s a little denser that the regular bread.

Cornbread leftovers can be eaten as breakfast. It is also widely consumed with barbecue or chili con carne recipes. Cornbread crumbs are used in poultry stuffings and is mostly associated with Thanksgiving stuffed turkeys.

In USA there are  two types of cornbread classified as “northern” and “southern” cornbread. The difference is in the quantity of the sugar. flour, dairy, and type of cornmeal used in the recipe.

While the southern cornmeal contains buttermilk and small quantities of sugar and flour, the northern variation is much sweeter, has more of a cake like appearance containing wheat flour, eggs, diary and sugar.

Step 1: Cool it

Make sure that the cornbread is completely cooled before thinking about freezing it. It must be at room temperature before wrapping it. It is NOT recommended that you put something in the freezer that is still warm.

Step 2: Portion it

Slice or portion the cornbread to be more easily to take out just enough you know you will consume. You cannot re freeze it.

Wrap your portioned cornbread loaf or muffins in aluminum foil or cling film. Pay attention to cover the entire surface, corners and seal tight around edges.

Step 4: Bag it

Step 5: Label and freeze
